Dear All,

 

SLSAJ Research Journal and Research Session - 2007

SLSAJ has decided to hold its Research Session for the year 2007, namely, RS-2007 on 2nd, September 2007 in AIEJ Hall, Komaba Tokyo. As you may be aware Research Session (RS) is potentially the biggest event of SLSAJ though it is only five years old. Last year, we could send the Annual Research Journal of SLSAJ to Sri Lankan universities and other research institutions and in return, SLSAJ has been appreciated very much by those institutions. Our idea towards this end was to share research activities of Sri Lankan community in Japan with that of in Sri Lanka.

 

We kindly invite you to contribute to the RS-2007 through submitting your papers, in sequel to be published in the Annual Research Journal of SLSAJ 2007 or doing a presentation. Some of the authors (in some cases, few non-authors) would be selected and subsequently invited do presentations for the RS-2007.

To maintain the standard of the research journal the committee of SLSAJ decided to form a panel for the RS in this year too. The main idea is to enhance the standard of the papers. This is an ideal opportunity for authors to get expert advice, important feedbacks, etc. and the Panel would perform giving every possible encouragements, support, etc for every author.

Dear Honorary Members, Members and Well-wishers of SLSAJ,

As you may already be aware, the RS Sub-committee is proudly making arrangements to host the Annual Research Session of SLSAJ - 2006 at the AIEJ Hall, Komaba, Tokyo on September 30th (Saturday), 2006 from 1.25 pm to 5.15 pm.

As an association comprised of academics of different fields hailing from a variety of educational institutes, the Annual Research Session is of utmost importance as a premium forum in addressing the professional and educational needs of the Sri Lankan student community in Japan. The Annual Research Journal of SLSAJ 2006 (Issue 6) to be distributed at this occasion and intended to be circulated amongst the libraries in Sri Lankan academia will serve as a virtual bridge to convey the advances made by Sri Lankan researchers in Japan in various disciplines to their counterparts in Sri Lanka. The Research Session will include guest speeches and presentations from a wide range of research fields.

Sinhala & Tamil New Year Celebrations in Tokyo

 

Sinhala & Tamil New Year Celebrations 2006 will be held on Sunday 16th April 2006 from 10:00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m. at the Shibaura Shogakko, Minato-ku, Tokyo. Co-organizers: Sri Lanka Student’s Association in Japan, Sri Lanka Association of Japan and Embassy of Sri Lanka in Japan.

 

His Imperial Highness Prince Mikasa and Her Imperial Highness Princess Mikasa will be the chief guests and Hon. Yasuo Fukuda, President of Japan Sri Lanka Association, Hon. Hoisei Norota, President of the Japan Sri Lanka Parliamentary League, Ambassador Yasushi Akashi, Special Representative of the Japanese Government to the Peace Process in Sri Lanka will also be present to grace the occasion.

 

Many Sri Lankan nationals and Japanese well wishers from different prefectures are expected to attend the celebrations.

 

Sinhala & Tamil New Year Celebrations in Tokyo will come to you with many traditional and customary games such as Kotta Pora, Kamba Edeema, and cultural programs, including Avurudu mesaya [New Year breakfast table] with a variety of Sri Lankan assorted sweets, Avurudu Kumari competition, fancy dress competition for children and grand musical evening by “Sihense” with popular Sri Lankan Artist Jagath Wickramasinghe.

 

A special crew from Sri Lanka Rupavahini will be videoing the celebrations to be telecast on Sri Lanka Rupavahini.

Tharanga 2006 of SLSAJ

 

Dear Well wishers, Honorary Members and Members,

 

The Executive Committee of SLSAJ has appointed a Sub-committee for organizing the publication of this year issue of annual magazine of Tharanga. The distribution of forthcoming Tharanga 2006 would be on April, 2006, that is when the Association celebrates the New Year. As you may be aware, the magazine usually contains articles from various topics, poems, drawings –both by adults and children, information and mild research papers, etc.--hereinafter referred as items, intended to the general reader The above mentioned items are now being accepted for publication in the Tharanga 2006.

 

We hope you will contribute to Tharanga 2006 with your creations, imaginations and knowledge to make the year 2006 issue a success as in the previous years. Please note some important points mentioned below when preparing your own items for the publication.

Welcome Reception for the newcomers and Annual General Meeting of SLSAJ -2005

 

 This is to inform you that the SLSAJ, in collaboration with the Sri Lankan Embassy in Japan, is planning to host a Welcome Reception for the students who are entering Japanese Universities from Sri Lanka, in the academic years starting from April and October 2005. This is a special event for SLSAJ and this is also the first time such a welcome reception is organized. The main objective of the event is to initiate a programme to provide essential guidance and support to newcomers and make them comfortable with the Japanese culture and environment. In addition, this would be a great opportunity as a gathering for new members, past members and well-wishers of SLSAJ.

 

 In addition, the Annual General Meeting of SLSAJ will be convened on the same day to appoint new office bearers to continue the valuable services rendered by the SLSAJ for the coming year.
