The
Sri Lanka Students' Association in Japan (SLSAJ) was
formed in the year 1987 consisting of 8 members. Today
it has grown in proportion and has a membership of more
than 100. The association was formed with several
objectives in mind. Chief among them are to provide a
common forum for Sri Lankan students staying in Japan so
as to share their talents, experiences and grievances
and to promote our motherland in whatever way we can in
our capacity as students. In the past few years several
activities were held in this direction. The annual trip,
lasting at least two days, is a great opportunity to
visit places of importance and interest at a very
affordable price. It also provides an opportunity of
meeting other Sri Lankan students. Also in the annual
agenda is the Sinhala and Tamil New Year celebration,
which affords the members with an opportunity of sharing
a Sri Lankan meal. At these numerous occasions members
will also get a chance of meeting 'our' Japanese friends
who help and work with us in close coordination. the
other activities are too numerous to state here. We
welcome constructive criticism and new ideas from fellow
members to help achieve our noble objectives. It is the
duty of each member to participate in all these
activities in whatever way he/she can. All members are
expected to act in a collective and dignified manner so
as to protect and promote the good name of the
association and the country at large. The association
being conscious of the monetary constraints of students,
conducts its affairs giving due consideration to this
aspect. A new member is obliged to pay 2000 yen as
Registration and Membership fee and 1000 yen each year
thereafter. We the members of the association, welcome
you, the prospective member, and look forward to your
active co-operation in all our activities.
